Writer, Director and Legendary Humorist Chitralaya Gopu, who has written wrote Tamil Classic Comedies like “Kaathalikka Neramillai”, “Galatta Kalyanam”, “Uththaravindri Ulle Va” and Directed films like “kaasethan Kada vulada”, “Athaiya Maamiya”, turned 90 on July 2. He was awarded the kalaimamani award by Former Tamil Nadu Chief Mi nister J Jayalalitha in 1992. Kamal Hassan and Crazy Mohan honoured him at a function and awarded t he title Nagaichuvai semmal,

His Kaathalikka neramillai still stands strong as one of best comedy films to have ever been made in tamil. Mr. Gopu was also a very successful Playwrig ht who has done some very successful plays like Maaya Bazaar, Srimathi, G alatta Kalyanam, Pattam parakkuthaiya, under his Theatre Group Unity Cl ub.

Later on, Mr Gopu also found success in TV, through his comedy show called “Washingtonil Thiruma nam”. Celebrities from Tamil film industry including AVM Saravanan, Kamal Haasan, Sivakumar, Actor Ramkumar, Actress, Kanc hana, Rajshree, L. Vijayalakshmi, Latha and Kutti Padmini and so on have se nt him their video wishes on the occasion.

Mr. Gopu now resides in Thiruvanmiyur with his family.
