University of East London (UEL) begins I ndia Tour with Sustainability Conferene nce in Chennai

Chennai, India (November 18, 2024): Th e University of East London (UEL) today hosted a groundbreaking Sustainability Solutions Conference at the Taj Wellingt on, Chennai. This event marked a signifi cant milestone in UEL’s multi-city India t our, which aims to foster sustainable ed ucation, promote innovative technologi es, and strengthen partnerships betwee n academia and industry.
The conference showcased UEL’s commi tment to sustainable solutions, with a pa rticular focus on key innovations such as Sugarcrete®. This low-carbon building material, made from sugarcane waste, has the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the construction industry.UEL and India partners are taki ng a substantive lead in sustainable dev elopment by using Sugarcrete as a pote ntially major manufacturing solution for India and have successfully constructed an entire school with this technology.
The University also reiterated its comm itment to strengthening its ties with Indi a and is actively exploring opportunities to establish a physical presence in the c ountry. By partnering with leading India n institutions, UEL aims to address the g rowing demand for skilled professionals and contribute to India’s research and in novation.
Expert panels convened to discuss press ing issues such as climate change, sustai nable energy, and circular economy. Ren owned speakers from UEL, Siemens Ind ia, and other leading organizations shar ed insights and best practices, providing valuable insights into the latest trends a nd challenges in the field of sustainabili ty.
The conference provided ample opportu nities for j to network with industry lea ders, academic experts, and policymake rs. This networking facilitated the excha njge of ideas, fostered collaborations, an d paved the way for future partnerships.
