Mayilasamy requests Tamil Nadu CM Stalin to appoint Tamil speaking air-hostesses
Actor Mayilasamy has urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin to make efforts to appoint Tamil-speaking air hos tesses in the flights operated in the state. Mayilasamy, along with Udayanidhi Stalin, attended the press conf re nce of the film Nenjuku Nidhi held on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Mayilasamy shared his experience of flying from Coimbatore to Chennai.
He said that he speaks neither Hindi nor English and therefore faces difficulties in communicating with flight attendants during the flight. “Therefore, I request you and your father (Chief Minister MK Stalin) to depute women who know Tamil in the planes circling Tamil Nadu,” she said.
Mayilasamy said that he would have learned Hindi if it was the national language, but it is not so. He questioned why he would have to learn the language of another state just for something like flying to another destination.
This comes at a time when there is intense debate over the status of Hindi as the national language. Amit Shah said earlier this year that when citizens of states communicate with each other, it should be in the language of India, with Hindi being accepted as an alternative to English. His statement drew criticism from the opposition and Tamil artists such as AR Rahman and music maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s son Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Coming to the press conference of the film, the Nenjuku Nidhi director thanked the audience for showering love on the film. He said that he credits his success to actor Sivakarthikeyan as the last film he made with the actor, Kana recognized him for being able to nab the project.
Nenjuku Nidhi is the Tamil remake of the Bollywood film Article 15 and stars Udayanidhi Stalin, Aari Arjunan, Tanya Ravichandran and Shivani Rajasekhara.
