SRM students win gold for India at Asian University Chess Championship

 SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur is proud to announce that three of its students had represented Association of Indian Universities Team in the Asian University Chess Championship (AUCC) for Women 2021 and won the Nation a gold medal.

The event was organized by Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) and hosted by Georgian Chess Federation, Georgia. The event was held virtually in Tornelo platform between 2nd and 5th of Sep 2021.

About 12 countries including, India, Malaysia, Iran, UAE, Indonesia, China, Srilanka, Mongolia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kazakhstan took part in the championship.

There was a total of 9 rounds.

AIU (Association of Indian Universities Team) won the first ever Gold Medal in the AUCC. AIU Indian team consists of four players and out of which three players are from SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST). SRMIST students were coached by Dr. M. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, SRMIST.
