Upholding the World Health Day and celebrating an Inclusive health week, Special Olympic Bharat organized Me dical screening of 75000 athletes with intellectual Disabilities on 7 April 2022 across 75 cities of India on the occasion of 75 years of India independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav). About 7500 Medical Professionals were trained according to the Special Olympics guidelines, to carry out the screenings effectively. The Athletes were screened across Special Smiles (Dental) and Health Promotion (prevention & nutrition) all over India carr ied out in the state of Tamil Nadu only. The Special Olympics Fit 5 demonstration will be conducted at the scree ning venues. Fit 5 is a plan for physical activity, nutrition, and hydration, aiming to improve the health and fitness of the athletes and persons from a cross-section of the society. 750 sports centers activated in phases, encour aging the Athletes to include sports in their daily lives. The registrations of the athletes will be executed through an indigenously designed mobile application designed to promote digital access and establish a monitoring syste m for the Athletes creating a timeline for each.
For Tamil Nadu, Special Olympic Bharat, Tamil Nadu in association with National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) organized the National Health Fest for Divyangjan and Guinness World Record : Most people running in place simultaneously in Multiple venues on 7th April 2022 at NIEPMD, Muttukadu, Chennai. , The event was presided by the chief guest Dr.M.Sundar Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Phy sical Education & Sports University, Chennai, the guest of honour Smt.Tarika Roy, IRAS FA & CAO / Stores, Integ ral Coach Factory, Perambur, and the special guest was Shri.V.Baskaran, Padmashri & Arjuna Awardee, Olympic Gold Medalist. Shri.Nachiketa Rout, Director, NIEPMD delivered welcome address and Smt.Julia Vasanthi.M, Area Director, Special Olympic Bharat – Tamil Nadu, delivered the Vote of thanks. Dr.A.K.Vela, Chairman, Amrit Mahotav Committee and Special Olympic Bharat Sports, Director, Dr.A.Amarnath, Deputy Registrar (Offg), NIEP MD, Parents of PwDs etc among those present on the occasion. This mega event was organised by Special Olym pics Bharath Tamil Nadu, in association with National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disa bilities, Dept.of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empower ment, Govt. of India. About 250 persons with disabilities were participated in the program.
