SOUTHERN ARMY COMMANDER VISITS CHENNAI MILITARY STATION

Lieutenant General JS Nain, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command was on a two days visit to Chennai Military Station on 13 and 14 September 2021. The Southern Army Commander visited Headqu art ers Dakshin Bharat Area and was briefed by the General Officer Commanding, Lieutenant General A Arun about the high state of preparedness of the formation to carry out its operational role and humanitarian assistance an d disaster relief duties. In an address to all the officers of the station, the Army Commander exhorted them to continue maintaining a high standard of professionalism and training standards.

During this two days visit, the Army Commander called on the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu Shri Banwarilal Purohit. The Hon’ble Governor appreciated the commitment and contributions of the Indian Army towards na tion building.

In his visit to Officers Training Academy (OTA), a 800 KW Solar Power Generation Project was commissioned by the General. The Solar Power Project has the latest technology in power generation and transmission. Apart fr om being environment friendly, the power generated by the Solar Power Project will result in saving of Rs. One Crore per annum on an average.

By commissioning this project OTA Chennai has achieved yet another milestone in its contribution towards en vironment protection and preservation. It is a plastic free campus, with almost 60% rain water harvesting comp liance, water recycling schemes, drip irrigation and internal waste management plants. All these coupled with regular afforestation drives over a period of time has resulted in OTA Chennai emerging as a green zone in the city.
