Snapchat introduces the latest ‘Learn Tamil’ lens to celebrate Madras Day
August 18, 2021: On the occasion of Madras day, Snapchat introduces ‘Learn Tamil’ lens that allows people from across the country to get acquainted with the language in a fun and interactive way through Augmented Reality on Snapchat.
The Lens uses Augmented Reality and machine learning to recognize over 1000 objects and translate their name to Tamil in real-time. Snapchatters just have to point their cameras at an object to scan it, and the Lens automatically displays the English and Tamil names, along with a phonetic transcription of the word to help with pronunciation.
Created by Atit Kharel of the Snap Lens Network, “It was fun to create a lens that helps beginners learn Tamil in a fun and easy way. AR has revolutionized our lives in various aspects and I am glad to be collaborating with Snapchat to create a lens that teaches you the basics of a language.”
