Story-;
Sinamkol is a compelling political story set eight years after the civil war in Sri Lanka. It is a story of a Tamil Eel am soldier Amudhan, his incredible journey and tribunals, as he searches for his wife and daughter after being released from detention by the genocidal Sri Lankan regime. The film describes the hardship of the lives of many Tamil soldiers in Sri Lanka. It portrays the political situations of the Tamils in their homeland through the eyes of Amudhan. Parallel to which, a Tamil family from diaspora visiting Tamil Eelam encounters troubles of post-war challenges. Sinamkol carries a powerful political message of post-war challenges faced by the minority Tamils.
The crux of the movie is the story of a young man who is released from jail, returns to his village and his encou nt ers there. A major portion of the movie was shot in Jaffna and Mullaitivu. Many of the cast and crew are from Sri Lanka.

Movie Review-;
Director Ranjith has done an awesome job in bringing light into many factors concerning post-‘eelam’ war term in Sri Lankan history. He have given detailed cinematography into the pathway of ex-combatants and the Tamil people suffering for survival. Curable, over-looked, abused, are some words that can be taken away from the movie’s setting brought out by Director Ranjith Joseph. Yes, war did finish, and it’s not in favor of Tamils or the movement. Some readers may be taking pity on Mrs W but not only did we have time for a nice meal beforehand and the movie, Sinamkol, was also groundbreaking and rather exciting. Ranjith Joseph’s film is the first to be shot in the region of Sr Lanka which has been dogged by civil war.The hero, Amuthan, did serve his time in jail and returns to find his wife and regain his lost personal life. Along the path he crosses the sufferings the war has left to the losing side. Indeed, its aim to highlight the struggle of the Tamil people in the country, both culturally and economically.Aravindhan stars as Amudhan – a former rebel who has been incarcerated for eight years without seeing anyone in the outside world.
it does have it’s own stories at times. It does have it’s own suffering. It does have it’s own history. But we tend to learn and live along the winning side only. It is human nature, it’s what the history taught us. If and when we lose, we will see people crossing over to the winning side and following it’s own path. He cuts a thoughtful but frustr ated figure, having to track down a wife (Narvini Dery Ravishangar) who he hasn’t seen for eight years and a da ughter he hasn’t even met. He has also found a world which is worse than the one he left with the army having taking over much of the land for which he fought.Director Ranjith Joseph takes the audience for a ride into the losing side’s lives and it’s history. Yes, when you lose a battle or when you are forced into a life that is not what you had hoped for, you don’t have much choice, but to adopt to it. Nevertheless, he tries to find a way to exist peacefully in Sir Lanka post-civil war.Unfortunately, his past and the oppression his people have suffered cannot be easily escaped – not least because most are penniless.
Sinamkol is an enthralling film in itself – Mrs W. knew nothing of the Tamil struggle in Sri Lanka and despite the movie’s presumed knowledge, she was fully engaged. However, Joseph’s ambitions are not limited to mere cine ma entertainment.What is amazing about this movie is that the hero or the ‘lost-side’ characters does not show any sign of a defeat in their life. They still remain loyal to the cause. He has aimed his film at the international community, hoping that it will now pay attention to the stories of civil war survivors and help relieve their pain. However, the problem is that I just can’t imagine anyone of significance beyond Tamil-speaking people watching Sinamkol partially because the rebels are still regarded by many as terrorists.They have the will power and prove s that they will at all times be a good human because of their alliance to this man called “Annan”. The society will take it’s natural spin once you remove these powerful guidance from the society, but the son’s of this man will remain faithful to his obedience and the unmeasurable sacrifices upto date.
The movie is not a super hit for a regular cinema goers, it’s not enriched with punch dialogs, or fight scenes, or dance music; It has it’s own flavors that will surely take you for a ride. Indeed no mention is made in this film of the tens of thousands of civilians who died during the civil war. Anyway, my pessimism was reflected by ours being the only white faces in the screening in South Ruislip on Saturday.Unfortunately, we are rare in our desire to understand other cultures and, while we were enlightened, others will be blissful in their ignorance.But it’s definitely a must watch movie. It is one of a kind movie that has touched the ceiling at many levels. It is somethi ng that must be watched by everyone, and some/most will be touched by it as the director Ranjith made sure to bring some sceneries and incidents close to your heart. So sit back and relax and enjoy the show. Wish all the best for Director Ranjith and looking forward to a successful career.
