SIMS Hospital conducts Garbha Yoga programme for Moms-to-be Women
- Organised as part of International Mother’s Day, the session aims to raise awareness and address the challenges of parturition through a holistic programme
Chennai, 7th May 2022: Motherhood is an essential chapter in a woman’s life, and celebrating the essence of this new phase, SIMS Hospital and Chennai Yoga Studio, organised a holistic maternity and wellness session – Garbha Yoga, today. In line with International Mother’s Day, Garbha Yoga wellness session featured a yoga program with Ms. Rohini Manohar while educating pregnant women on childbirth in the presence of Ms. Sheethal Sathya, a cer tified childbirth educator. The wellness session aimed to provide integrated benefits for the moms-to-be, with ce rtified instructors and doctors helping them embark on a new journey.
Prenatal yoga is an emerging new fitness regime to prepare pregnant women for safe and happy delivery. Garb ha Yoga witnessed women in several yoga poses like Wide-Angle Seated Forward Bend (Upavistha Konasan a),T riangle Pose (Trikonasana), Standing Forward Bend (Uttanasana), among many others that be practised on a rout ine basis at the comfort of their homes. In addition, the session enlightened the participants’ on self-care metho ds and dietary recommendations to tackle hormonal and behavioural changes during pregnancy along with tips to give birth to a healthy child.

Similarly, Dr. P M Gopinath, Director & Senior Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology & IVF, SIMS Hospitals said, “During pregnancy ,to-be-mothers are vulnerable and anxious when it comes to labour and childbirth. GarbhaYoga is an umbrella session that lays a central focus on addressing their concerns and apprehensions whilst imparting an understanding of how they take care of themselves in such tim es. Mobility exercises can help prepare the growing belly for changes in weight and balance by strengthening and conditioning key muscle groups, particularly the hip and abdominal core muscles, as well as the pelvic floor.”
