California based 501(c)(3) non-profit SciArtsRUs in association with Carnatic music promotion organization in Chennai, Carnatica Archival Center, Global brought together the first edition of Marghazhi Music Mela 2021 (3M) from Jan 4-9, during Marghazhi season this year.3M explored the synergy of Art and Science in Carnatic Music. We started this series with a coffee table chat, on zoom, with our Star Musicians Kalyanapuram Aravind, Sunil Gargyan, Abilash Giri Prasad, and Abiram  Bode!3M featured over 18 concerts over 6 days from artists from India and the United States.

It featured start musicians and emerging talents and hopes to grow this festival in the future.  This lively discussi on helped our rasikas to learn a little more about the artists and also explored how music is a science and the im pact of music physiologically also is scientific. We discussed how certain aspects and practices in Carnatic music have known to have positive physiological responses as well. This thought- provoking discussion preceded the inaugural concerts on Jan 4.Carnatica Archival Center, founded over 20 years ago by eminent musician and organiser, Vidwan K. N. Shashikiran is in the mission to promote Carnatic music globally via concerts, workshops and lecture demonstrations and so on.

This unique collaboration hopes to provide more insight into the art of science and the science of music going forward.SciArtsRUs looks forward to more collaborations in the future including more Marghazhi Music Melas globallyJan 23-March 12, 2021SciArtsRUs, a California based non-profit founded by Dr. Ranjini Kaushik is host ing a concert series on cross-cultural music. The series as part of their SciArtic Tunes initiative will explore and feature eminent artists globally, including United States, Japan and Indonesia, who practice Indian Performing Arts on a full-time basis as well as world music.

This series will celebrate differences amongst all cultures and explore diversity and acceptance via this novel initiative. The artists will be interviewed in this series where we will learn about them and help disseminate the message of adopting music of a different culture and also practicing it professionally. We hope to send a positive message to our audience during these rather turbulent times and also while the world is still battling the pande mic. Cross-culture concerts hopes to spread the message of inclusivity, diversity and celebration of our differ ences globally via the medium of music, dance and perfo rming arts .

This Global launch and inauguration of this series will be attended by dignitaries from world-wide including the eminent Sarod player and Grammy nominee Ustad Aashish Khan, Carnatic music educator and researcher at Westleyan University Balraj Balasubramaniyan, Musician and Composer Ron Wasserman, Indonesian Film Score composer Franki Raden, Osibisa Lead Singer and Guitarist Gregg Kofi Brown from London, UK and UCLA ethnomusicology professor and percussionist Abhiman Kaushal. Popular and young and upcoming Sai sisters who are highly proficient in Carnatic music will also be featured where they will be singing several western and carnatic fusion songs.

Musicians featured are Santoor player, Dan Blanchard , Indian Slide Guitar player Dave Cipriani,  Sitar player Will Marsh, Sarod player Steve Oda, Cello player Chris Votek, world music multi instrument player Anello Ca puano, Veena Player Yuko Matoba and Sitar player Amie Macizewski to name a few. We look forward to spr eading the message of diversity and cultural integration via this series. About Dr. Ranjini Kaushik

Dr. Ramachander Kaushik is a Biochemist and Molecular Biologist by training. Ranjini obtained her Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2004 in Biochemistry and specialized in understanding sig nal transduction mechanisms of MAP Kinase pathways in mammalian cells. She obtained her Masters in Biote chnology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai. She also has a regulatory certification from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Ranjini is the founder of a Biotechnology Consulting Firm, NuBi oVista LLC, where she leverages her decades of experience in the biotechnology industry to provide exper tise to biotech start-ups and well-established biotech firms.

Ranjini has previously held roles of increasing responsibility as a Process Development Group Leader at Amgen, Inc, a leading global biotechnology company based in Thousand Oaks, California. Ranjini brings years of exp ertise serving on conference panels, speaking at international venues, and leading cross functional groups and initiatives. She is the recipient of several awards from her company for her technical and leadership skills. Ranj ini is also an avid promoter of the Arts. She is a passionate artist herself who paints and sketches in her free time and leverages her art to fund causes that she believes in. Ranjini is a passionate aficionado of classical music and is also actively involved in helping promote Western and Indian Classical Music mainly Carnatic and Hindustani as well as dance, both globally and in the Los Angeles area. Ranjini volunteers her time and serves on the board of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic and Carnatica Archival Center, USA where she is actively involved in fundr aising and promoting awareness of classical music. In her free time, Ranjini paints, and learns music to keep her mind actively engaged. Ranjini lives with her husband, and her two children, who are also students of the arts.
