Citizens in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu can now book cabs and autos for their various mobility needs as per the new guidelines issued by the State Government

Chennai, 5 June 2020: Following the new guidelines issued by the Tamil Nadu Government, Ola, India’s leading mobility platform and one of the world’s largest ride-hailing companies has resumed its services in Chennai with the highest levels of safety and precautionary measures across all vehicles. Earlier, Ola had resumed operations across other major cities in Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and Salem. Citizens will now be ab le to book autos and cabs for their varied mobility needs including commuting to and from the airport and other transit hubs in the city of Chennai.

Strengthening Ola’s safety-first approach, Ola has also introduced 5 layers of safety that include strictly adh er ing to steps that ensure the highest standards of safety and hygiene for every ride. This includes compulsory ma sk usage for driver-partners and passengers, deep sanitization of cars before and after rides, urging passe ngers to load and unload their luggage themselves as well as encouraging cashless payments, amongst others. A fle xible cancellation policy has also been introduced that allows either the passenger or driver-partner to cancel the ride if they feel the other party is not following the rules or not wearing a mask. Ola has mandated all veh icles on the platform to follow hygiene and safety standards that will include the cars being cleaned and sanit ized before every ride. Fumigation of the vehicle will also be done every 48 hours.

Anand Subramanian, Spokesperson and Head of Communications at Ola, said, As per the latest guidelines issued by the Tamil Nadu St ate Government, driver-partners operating three and four-wheelers on the Ola platform in Chennai will be available to serve mobility needs of citizens on the Ola app, with the highest levels of safety and precau tion. This also brings relief to tens of thousands of drivers-partners whose livelihoods have depended on serving citizens.

Our commitment towards enabling a safe ride experience for our driver-partners and passengers is also reiterated thro ugh our ‘5 layers of safety’ initiative that is being followed across the 180+ cities where Ola has now resumed operat ions. This includes compulsory mask usage for driver-partners and passengers, complete sanitization of cars post-trips, adhering to social distancing norms by limiting to two passengers per ride amongst other key steps.” Complying with State government regulations, Ola cabs will operate with one driver and three passengers while two passengers, excluding the driver, will be allowed in autos.
