NDIAN COAST GUARD (EAST) CONDUCTS 200 COMMUNITY INTERACTION PROGRAMMES FOR FISHER MEN
Indian Coast Guard Eastern Region, conducted a Special Awareness Programme for fisher folk of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to educate them about safety of life at sea and their importance in coastal security.
As part of the Awareness Programme, a total of two hundred Community Interaction Programme were condu cted by Indian Coast Guard units of Eastern Region at 188 villages of 24 Coastal Districts of Andhra Pradesh
and Tamil Nadu in the month of March 2022. Fishermen were imparted with hands-on training on Safety Equipment, Commu nication Equipment, First Aid on general injuries and snake bite at sea. During the interaction the role of fishermen as ‘Eye and Ears’ in ensuring Coastal Security of the country was also empha sized. About Ten Thousan d fishermen along with Fisheries Auth orities and other Stakeholders participated in the Awareness Programme.
The fisheries authorities and owner of the boat were advised to ensure mandatory carriage of safety equipment for safety of lives at sea. They were also advised to refrain from any illegal activities at sea.
