Movie Review-;

Over the years, there have been a lot of flicks that were made in the backdrop of love stories in the college cam puses. But not all films are lively and they hardly match up to the sense of nostalgia that is needed. It is streaming on Zee 5.Tamil movie Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee is a refreshing tale directed by Dabruka Siva. It is all about a bu nch of high school students who go through a lot during the typical issues of teenage life. This series has dreams, first love, music, guitars, football, video cassettes, and a lot more. This one will take all the 90s kids on a trip do wn memory lane and will hit hard into their hearts as most of the scenes are quite relatable to everyone.This seri es marks the debut directorial venture of composer-turned-filmmaker Darbuka Siva. This guy knows what story has to be told, what should start, and when to end. Friends Vinoth (Kishen Das), Chinese (Harish), Durai (Sharan Kumar) and Su (Gautham Raj ) are seen waiting outside their classrooms to check the list of new admissions.

Well, this is to check the names of the girls whom they think would be a perfect match for them. Soon, we will me et Rekha (Meetha Raghunath) and Vinoth falls head over heels in love with her. Their love in the high school is in nocent but mature. At the outset, the movie just explores a bunch of characters, who are school students, who explore teenage pressures and enjoyments through their school life. This along with the fact that it was the 90’s, so the mindset of the children is entirely different from the mindset of children today. But, as the movie progre sses, it just feels like a cluster of school-related scenes put together for the audience to so-called relive their chil dhood school days. However, it just becomes a little mundane as it goes. A few scenes of love that happen in bet ween the two have been done to death in Tamil cinema. They are still relatable though. The entire film talks ab out what one actually wants in life and how it would be if people would compromise for things in different stages of life.

The love sequence between Vinoth (Kishen Das) and Rekha (Meetha Raghunath) is truely adorable to watch. Their small squabbles and conversations are typical of childhood love, also called puppy love. The wo characters become key ones that help take the movie forward eventually. There is a section of the Indian online community on Twitter and elsewhere that cherishes the ‘90s more than any other era. These people, who identify themselv es as ‘90s kids’, feel life was slower and simpler then. They look back at the objects, people, places, and pop cult ure of that era with a heavy sense of longing.The first hour or so of Darbuka Siva’s debut directorial, Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee, is for this crowd. For it effectively captures the zeitgeist of the ‘90s – the ‘90s of middle-class Mad ras, to be precise – through a bunch of high-school kids.

You find boys in loose full-sleeved shirts (buttoned up an d well-tucked in) and trousers, girls in churidars with the sleeves coming up to the middle of their arms, a buzzing Spencers Plaza, an annual diary converted into a ‘slam book’, a guy trying to find the fate of his potential romance through ‘FLAMES’, phone booths, Yamaha RX 100 motorcycles, cassettes, VHS tapes, walkmans, and so on…All the actors, who are youngsters, have done a great performance. Siva’s has worked so much on the script that the film has come out so well. Cinematographer Sujith Sarang has done a great job and all the camera frames have worked in the favour of the script. On the whole, if you are someone who is missing your school and college days, and want a trip down memory lane, then this film is definitely worth watching this weekend.There is a section of the Indian online community on Twitter and elsewhere that cherishes the ‘90s more than any other era.

These people, who identify themselves as ‘90s kids’, feel life was slower and simpler then. They look back at the objects, people, places, and pop culture of that era with a heavy sense of longing. The scenes play out as mini-epi sodes capturing the life of the students. There is a funny one where a sex-education seminar, presented by a pas tor, ends with a slide that says, “Please obey your elders for a prosperous life.” Another scene involves a boy sea ring the letter ‘C’ on his arms with acid to propose to a girl named Catherine. When she refuses, he asks his friend if he can change the ‘C’ into an ‘S’ so he can propose to Soniya. Upon being warned by another friend that he has to be a lifelong vegetarian if he marries Soniya, he decides to modify the ‘C’ into a ‘G’ (for Gayatri)! The innoce nce of first love, between Vinoth (Kishen Das) and Rekha (Meetha Raghunath), is captured well, too. These sce nes are cute without being cloying.
