KATTANKULATHUR,
Milan 2024 – the 16th annual cultural students’ festival of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, and one of the most sought-after pan-India events began on Thursday evening with a spectacular live performance by popular artists in addition to events hosted by various clubs of the institution.
Street life from the world over:
For students from all over India who had reached the sprawling and verdant campus of SRM IST to compete and perform at Milan 2024, it was a refreshing welcome and experience. With the theme of Milan 2024 being ‘Streets’ – a fitting tribute to the vibrant culture of street life of countries from all over the world, the visiting students were awe-struck at the grandeur and creativity of the host institution.
Kicking off the proceedings was the event at Mini Hall – where music of the contestants serenaded the gathering and judges alike. With superlative performances from all participants, it was a close call for the jury to spot the winners – J Sushmitha and J Sushma of Kalasalingam University. A stone’s throw away from here at the Management Block – it was a fusion of beats, loops, and rhythm at the ‘Beatbox Revolution’ event. The performers with their innovative, creative talent captivated the audience and in the end Venkat Sri and Lathesh bagged the top honours.
In total contrast was ‘Turncoat’ at Law Block, with five eloquent speakers speaking on diverse topics and with the audience open to contrasting views, it was a battle of wits resulting in Seshadri, Abhishek, and Santhosh HP securing the top prizes.
At Faraday Hall, the audience was in splits at the Stand Up Comedy event judged by Rishi. Students delivered a no-holds-barred presentation, leaving the audience in splits. Other events on the inaugural day that were hugely popular with the students included Potpourri, Comic Scripts, Urban Couture Unveiled – fashion show, Nrityanjali – an electrifying solo classical dance that saw an overwhelming participation from over 50 contestants. Mahalakshmi R of Ethiraj College for Women bagged the first prize for her performance.
Andrea, Pradeep steal the show:
Just as the day ended, students warmed up to each other and assembled at the venue for the moment they were waiting for – live performances by actor and singer, Andrea Jeremiah, and singer Pradeep Kumar.
Andrea Jeremiah crooned some of her most popular numbers as well as cover versions and her swag was a spontaneous hit among the audience. She has to her credit some of the most popular songs and her live performance of the songs had the audience on a non-stop groove mode.
Just when the audience thought that the best was over, Pradeep Kumar – the voice behind some of the most popular numbers — took over the stage and rocked. The crowd could not have asked for better with two of the most popular, versatile singers performing back-to-back. The first day events left the students asking for more and were impressed with the themes, events, and pro-shows by most popular artistes at Milan 2024, proving once again why SRMIST is the premier destination not just for higher learning, but also for youth to come together and build teamwork, and partake the best of each other’s culture.
