VIJAY DIWAS CELEBRATED  AT WAR MEMORIAL, CHENNAI

Major General Prakash Chandra, Officiating General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area and officers and men of the three services laid wreath and paid homage to the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the 1971 War in a solemn ceremony conducted under strict Covid protocols at Victory War Memorial, Chennai. Many Veterans and Veer Naris to include Colonel Krishnaswamy A, Veer Chakra, Vishisht Seva Medal who was awarded Veer Chakra for his bravery, Mrs Lalitha Alexander, wife of (Late) Lieutenant Colonel AO Alexander who made supreme sacrifice and Colonel Samuel Raj P who got injured in mine clearing operations in the 1971 War also graced the occasion.

‘Vijay Diwas’ is celebrated on 16th December every year to commemorate the anniversary of victory of Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War in which about 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered and culminated into the liberation of Bangladesh. This year’s event also marks the 50th Anniversary called ‘ Swarnim Vijay Varsh
