Loyola celebrates 96th College Day for the first time both online and offline

Chennai: April 17, 2021: Loyola College celebrated its 96th college day on April 17, 2021 with the strict adhere nce to SOPs prescribed by the state government of Tamil Nadu. For the first time in its history, the prestigious an nual day was organized both online and offline to showcase the curricular and co-curricular accomplishments and bestowed the meritorious staff and students with awards.

Keeping in mind the effect of the pandemic situation, the college reduced its usual three hour programme to one and half hour event in which the Principal presented all significant milestones of the college during the academic year 2020-21 in a capsule video format. Further, only a select few staff and students were given their awards for their meritorious performance in the college on stage.

Addressing the staff and students online, the Guest of Honour, Dr. C. Jayakumar, Vice-president & Head – Corpor ate Human Resources, Larsen & Toubro Limited, Mumbai said that age does not matter when it comes to achiev ing excellence. Students need to have dedication, determination and the habit of hard work to accomplish great er things in life. He viewed the boom of digital technology as opportunities for youngsters to give their best and prove their mettle as experts in their own field.

The Chief Guest, Padma shri Dr V. Mohan, Chairman and Chief of Diabetology, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, Chennai who was physically present during the programme felt proud of himself as an alumnus of the co llege said that Loyola had staff and students unparalleled and it was this academic climate that made him what he has achieved today. He too urged the students to go for excellence in all that they do by exerting passion, focus, hard work and resilience.

Only officials, HODs, special invitees, meritorious students in about 150 in number were physically present in the venue and the entire college viewed the programme that was streamlined via youtube and WebEx platfor ms. The programme was not devoid of the usual culturals. The programme was organized under the auspices of Rev. Dr. A. Thomas, SJ, Principal. The other officials present during the celebrations were Rev. Dr. Francis P. Xav ier, SJ, Rector and Rev. Dr. D. Selvanayakam, SJ, Secretary and Dr. Melchias Gabriel, Deputy Principal.
