Jaipur Rugs opens their first store in Milan

Indian carpet maker Jaipur Rugs launches flagship store in Milan during the ongoing Milan Design Week

September 8th, Chennai: Jaipur Rugs, one of India’s leading producers of handmade carpets, opened its flagship store at Piazzale Cadorna, Milan – the design capital of the world. The 160 Sq. mt store is designed by Italian designer Matteo Cibic using his signature design language. The store is an experiential journey into the brand’s rich history and decades of craftsmanship. It narrates vibrant stories from rural India through a curated ensemble of contemporary handmade rugs.

The store also hosts a unique ‘Manchaha vault’, designed to propogate the brand’s comittment to preserve the ancestral art of handmade carpet weaving. The vault showcases one-of-a-kind rugs designed and woven by artisans from rural India.

Manchaha, a Hindi word popular in Rajasthan’s weaving community, means “expression of my heart”. It is also the name of a sustainable development initiative started by carpet maker Jaipur Rugs. Under this, weavers get to design their own rug for the first time in Rajasthan, India. It taps into the untamed fashion in rural India by nurturing their creative potential and transforms a community from exploitation to empowerment. Each rug, handmade with more than 200,000 knots, is the story of its creator – with emotions, dreams, and personality.

The store is home to a wide range of modern, contemporary, transitional and traditonal handknotted rugs made by rural Indian artisans practicing the art of carpet weaving for generations.

The store is located at Piazzale Cadorna nr. 4, Milano 20121,
Entrance: Via Marco Minghetti
