 Indigenised Fuel Injection Pump for UTD-20 Engines dedicated to Nation under ‘Make in India’ Initiative

            Engine UTD-20 one of the three variants of Diesel Engines manufactured by Engine Factory, Avadi, is used for powering Sarath Vehicle.  One of the main sub-assemblies of this Engine viz., Fuel Injection Pump, which is hitherto of import origin, has been fully indigenised by Engine Factory, Avadi in compliance with “Make in India” and “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” initiatives promoted by Government of India.

            Shri Hari Mohan, IOFS, DGOF & Chairman, Ordnance Factory Board has dedicated the fully Indigenised Fuel Injection Pump to the nation during “Atma Nirbhar Bharat Week” celebrations on 14th August, 2020, through video conference from Ordnance Factory Board Headquarters, Kolkata, in the presence of Shri R. Shyam Sunder, IOFS, General Manager, Engine Factory Avadi. 

            Shri R. Shyam Sunder, General Manager, Engine Factory Avadi, has stated that 90% of UTD-20 Engine is indigenised and with the indigenisation of Fuel Injection Pump, monetary saving to the tune of  Rs.2.18 lakhs per engine has been achieved to the State exchequer.

            Engine Factory Avadi, one of the 41 Ordnance Factories functioning under Ordnance Factory Board, under Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, manufactures three types of high power Diesel Engines for powering Armoured Tanks and Vehicles viz., Ajeya Battle Tank, Sarath Vehicle and Bhishma Battle Tank employed by Army.
