INAUGURATION OF CGSD COMPLEX AT TONDIARPET, CHENNAI

Indian Coast Guard Store Depot was inaugurated at Tondiarpet in Chennai by Director General VS Pathania, PTM, TM, Director General Indian Coast Guard, in the presence of other senior dignitaries from Coast Guard and MES during the ceremony.
Indian Coast Guard predominantly plays a significant role in ensuring National Maritime Security, Marine Poll ution Response and Maritime Search and Rescue in the Maritime Zones of India. State of Tamil Nadu is strat egically located with sensitive coastline withadjoiningMaritime Zones of India. The presence of Indian Coast Guard plays vital role in safeguarding Indian maritime interests. Coast Guard Store Depot at Tondiarpet will provide a strong logistic support to all Coast Guard units on the Eastern Coast, including Tamil Nadu.
Coast Guard Store Deport, Chennai is one of the oldest CGSD with Indian Coast Guard and it functions as a Mo ther Depot for Fast Patrol Vessels, Work Boats, Harbour Craft and Auxiliary Barges for the entire Indian Coast Guard. The logistics of Naval Stores, Clothing Stores, NBCD, POL Stores, Paint Stores, Mess Traps etc. for ICG Ships/Establishments under the Command of Eastern Region are also catered by this Depot. At present a total of 117 ICG units are provided with efficacious logistics support by this Depot.
The increase in number of ships with ICG fleet has also increased inventory of stores with the Coast Guard Store Depots. Thus need for stronger logistics support and spacious ware houses were felt by the organization. CG St ore Depot, Chennai at this location with mega warehouse spread in an area of 5 acres will ensure further syste matic logistics support to the organization.
Coast Guard Store Depot, Chennai functions under the Administrative Control of Commander, Coast Guard Region (East). The Depot is presently headed by DIG NK Kaul, TM as Officer-in-Charge.
