 History of The Batallion

12th Battalion The Madras Regiment was raised on 01st Jan 1981 at The Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington (Tamil Nadu), by Lt Col (Later Brig) H Ravi Kumar.

The Battalion was presented its colours on 19 May 1982 by the then COAS, Gen KV Krishna Rao, PVSM.

Our unit since then has excelled in all professional and operational spheres and has proved its mettle, time and again, in all field and peace stations to include the following

– Op Pawan at Jaffna,
– Siachen Glacier where the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited our Batallion
– Indo US Yudh Abhyas at Uttara Khand
– served in Jammu and Kashmir and North East

Raising Day Celebration

After long struggle the South Indian troops have got the opportunity to be at their native place in Chennai. Even Chennai we have organised military and civil events and won accolades.

Every year we celebrate Raising Day ( anniversary) of the Batallion on the 1st week of January wherein veterans and serving officers who have been part of the historic run will join the celebration of Raising day.

Requirements

To commemorate, the sacrifice of the warriors and their grit and tenacity. It’s a very prestigious Battalions we’re our PM also visited the Army official n encouraged them so jiiva sir never fail for such social responsibility even ts !!! He canceled his main event work n gone to cheer n encourage our soldiers of Indian Army and gathered hu ge round of applause and love from our Indian army !!! The Josh of all soldiers were sky touching after listeni ng the motivating words of jiiva
