DAKSHIN BHARAT AREA CELEBRATED ARMY WIVES WELFARE ASSOCIATION DAY
Dakshin Bharat (DB) Area celebrated 54th Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day on 23 August, 2020 at Chennai. The function was organised maintaining social distancing norms. 10 Veer Naris (Wives of deceased soldiers who took part in World War II) were felicitated by Dr (Mrs) Elizabeth Rao, Zonal President, DB Area with a small token of appreciation of Rs 10,000 each.
AWWA awards of excellence were given to ladies who have carried out exceptional work towards women empowerment and welfare of families of soldiers and children who excelled in the field of Academics and Sports. The felicitation also included ladies who were instrumental in making masks during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
In order to take care of the challenges being faced by the Next of Kin, Indian Army has dedicated this year as the year of ‘Next of Kin’, during which special initiatives have been launched throughout the Dakshin Bharat Area to reach out to them and solve any problems that they may be facing.The AWWA day event concluded with the launch of Digital Library by Dr (Mrs) Elizabeth Rao, Zonal President AWWA, DB Area. The library has a vast collection of books and study material in English and other regional languages.
DB Area has its headquarters in Chennai. It is under the Southern Command of Indian Army.
