British Council’s’GREAT Talks’ series on Space & Astronomy

 Chennai 28thAugust 2021: British Council is organising a series of lectures focusing on space and astronomy. This special lecture is being organised as part of the GREAT Talks series that gives Indian students, and learners access to some of the world’s brightest minds.

Professor Carole Mundell, Professor of Extragalactic Astronomy, Head of Astrophysics at the University of Bath, will throw light on what threatens our delicate space ecosystem and how important it is for humans to keep it healthy and safe so that we can explore beyond our planet, space, astronomy and astrophysics.

Students, astronomy enthusiasts and space ‘explorers’ from all parts of India can join the online session on 2nd September 2021. Students eager to build a career in astronomy and astrophysics can also learn from Professor Mundell’s journey.

It is time that humanity understands its responsibility and becomesthe effective custodian of space.

Join Professor Mundell as she unravels the mysteries of space as an extragalactic astronomer and the Chief International Science Advisor at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

 About ProfessorCarole Mundell:

Professor Carole Mundell is a professor of Extragalactic Astronomy, Head of Astrophysics at the University of Bath, holds the Hiroko Sherwin Chair in Extragalactic Astronomy and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. A world-leading scientist, she is a frequent guest speaker at international conferences. She sits on several strategic advisory panels for the UK and international groups, is a committed science communicator, and advocates for science diversity.

Carole was appointed as Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in October 2018. She was also awarded the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2011 to 2016) for the study of black hole-driven explosions and the dynamic Universe.

She studied at the University of Glasgow, where she gained a BSc in Physics before working at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, University of Manchester, where she completed a PhD in Astrophysics. She later moved to the Un iversity of Maryland before joining Liverpool John Moores University, where she received her first professorship in 2007.
