British Council organises a Policy dialogue on ‘Transformational Reforms in the Indian Higher Education System’
- Discussion on reforms in the NEP that promote India’s ambition of becoming a global education destination

As part of Going Global 2021 – a conference for leaders of international education –British Council is organising an India spotlight session on the ‘Transformational Reforms in Indian Higher Education System’. British Council, the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities, works closely with central and state govern ments, and higher education institutions, on bilateral programmes to further internationalisation in the higher education sectors of both India and the UK.
Going Global is an extension of British Council’s engagement with Indian stakeholders and creating platforms that further India’s Higher Education agenda. The policy dialoguewill focus on the challenges and opportunities for internationalisation of Indian higher education system with the range of structural and governance changes suggested under the NEP 2020 in a post COVID world. The virtual session will bring together prominent policy makers and thinkers from India and the UK, to discuss the roadmap for transforming higher education and making the nation a vibrant global knowledge hub.
The session will also discuss the UK and India, ‘Roadmap 2030’, launched by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Boris Johnson recently. Roadmap 2030 entails expansion of cooperation between the two countries in view of the NEP, simplification of the education regulatory framework, embracing online courses, integrating vocational training into mainstream education, and supporting two-way mobility for students, teachers, and researchers.

- Professor Sir Steve Smith – appointed as the UK International Education Champion in June 2019, a new Government role aimed at boosting global education partnerships. He was also appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Education to Saudi Arabia in October 2019.
