When medication, the primary approach to treat BPH fails, surgical proc edures such as Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP), Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (Ho LEP) or Open/Robotic Prostatectomy are often recommended. While these surgeries carry negligible side effe cts, they require general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthesia, making them unsuitable for elderly patients or tho se with underlying health conditions.
The UroLift procedure operates by compressing the prostate tissue that obstructs the urethra, resulting in imp roved urine flow. During the procedure, small permanent MRI compatible implants are strategically placed in t he urinary pathway, which is performed under mild sedation or local anaesthesia, ensuring the safety of even e lderly patients.
