Story-;

In 1948, Kadhiresan (Jagapathi Babu) visits a magnificent palace built by King Veera Sethupathi. He discusses the palace with a mason, who is among the eight architects who constructed the Palace. Kadhiresan wishes for such a magnificent palace for himself, but does not want a replica or duplicate of the palace to be built. The mas on tells him that it was the vision and passion of Veera Sethupathi that made the palace unique and wonderful. In the 1960s, Kadhiresan’s niece lives in the palace with her husband and daughter, who fear that the palace his haunted. During a full moon, she is possessed by a mysterious spectre, who cooks a sumptuous dinner for the family. Afterwards, the family die in their sleep. They reunite with other family members who died in the palace and meet Kadhiresan’s dead cook, Shanmugam (Yogi Babu), who claims that a mysterious force compels him to poison the inhabitants of the palace every full moon. His spirit, along with those of Kadhiresan (who has become a recluse after his death) and his family, are trapped inside the palace. Shanmugam, who has become the ghosts’ de facto leader, tells the dead family that they are all trapped by their own greed and that the person who sur vives after eating his cooking during a full moon can set them free.

In 2021, Rudra’s (Taapsee Pannu) family including her father, mother (Raadhika Sarathkumar) and brother are thieves secretly looting from the passengers of a train. They are followed by two other disguised thieves on the same train, who attempt to expose them and fail. The dispute between the two groups of thieves lands them in front of a police inspecter – the great-great-grandson of Kadhiresan, who, along with his grandfather, hopes to sell the palace, but is stymied by rumours of the palace’s haunting. He hires Rudra’s family – who claim to run a cleaning agency – to supposedly clean the palace, In reality, he simply wants them to live there until the full moon in order to convince potential buyers that the palace is safe, and plans to secretly dispose of their bodies if they are killed during this time. Unaware of this, Rudra’s family agree to clean the property, planning to loot the pal ace.

When Rudra first steps foot in the palace, the ghosts feel a mysterious energy and hope that her arrival means that she can set them free. However, after arriving at the palace, Rudra’s family are terrified by several inexp lic able events that occur (ironically caused by the ghosts who are attempting to convince them that the palace is safe). Rudra’s family plans to leave the palace, but Rudra, who has been enchanted by the palace, convinces them to help her fake a haunting so that they can acquire it instead. The ghosts, still hoping that Rudra can help them, plot to secretly help. Kadhiresan, spooked after seeing Rudra, breaks his seclusion to secretly follow her around, but still remains apart from his family.

On the day of the full moon, Rudra’s family plan to go to the temple in order to relieve their fears, leaving Rudra behind, not knowing that anyone who eats in the palace on the night of the full moon will die. Before their dep arture, Shanmugam possesses Rudra’s mother in order to cook for her. After Rudra eats and falls asleep, the gh osts eagerly wait to see if she is alive. When she wakes up, she is scared and angry to see the ghosts surrounding her, and the ghosts are disappointed thinking that she has also died, except for Shanmugam, who asks Rudra if she recognises him. When Rudra’s family return and begin interacting with her, the ghosts realise that Rudra has survived after all.

Rudra, after being told the story of their deaths, convinces the ghosts to help her with her plan to acquire the pa lace. Shanmugam, who is still disappointed that Rudra does not recognise him, takes her to a secret room hidden in the palace, which he claims is her bedroom. Among the items in the bedroom is a wedding dress, which he cla ims that Rudra wore on her wedding day, and picture from the 1940s of a woman resembling her. Shanmugam te lls Rudra the story of Veera Sethupathi (Vijay Sethupathi), a king who built the palace for his beloved queen, An nabelle (Taapsee Pannu), as a symbol of his love. The two lived happily in the palace, until Kadhiresan began to covet their home. After Veera Sethupathi refuses to sell him the palace, Kadhiresan poisons the couple in order to acquire it. Annabelle, who has since become pregnant, dies after swearing vengeance against Kadhiresan.

This is secretly seen by the couple’s cook, Shanmugam, who seeks revenge on Kadhiresan. After Kadhiresan and his extended family move into the palace, Shanmugam poisons their food. Kadhiresan, knowing of Shanmugam’s loyalty to the late king and queen, forces him to eat first, which Shanmugam does without hesitation. By the next morning, Shanmugam, Kadhiresan and his family are all dead, save for a single grandson who did not eat with the m as he had been sick. Since then, Shanmugam has been killing the relatives of Kadhiresan who had attempted to live in the palace. The sole survivors of the family now are the grandson who escaped the original poisoning and his own grandson, the police inspector who brought Rudra and her family to the palace.

While Shanmugam has been telling Rudra his story, the police inspector reappears with goons and, seeing that Rudra’s family have survived the full moon, attempts to kick them out of the palace. Rudra’s family claim that the palace is haunted and try to convince the ghosts to assist them in sending away the inspector, but the ghosts my steriously lose their ability to interact with the living world. While they attempt, and fail, to wreak havoc, a my sterious force grabs the inspector and his goons and throws them out, though none of the ghosts can figure out who did so.

Meanwhile, Shanmugam tries to convince Rudra that she is the reincarnation of Annabelle, whom she strongly resembles, but Rudra doesn’t believe him. She intends to continue her plan to convince Kadhiresan’s remaining descendants that the palace his haunted, and dresses herself in Annabelle’s old wedding dress to scare them. Th e ghosts, who have overheard their conversation and realised that Shanmugam poisoned them, are initially an gry, but realise that fault also lies with Kadhiresan and wish to return ownership of the palace to Rudra in the hopes that it will allow them to finally rest in peace.

Kadhiresan’s great-great-grandson and his goons return, this time with his grandfather. Kadhiresan’s grandson is shocked at seeing Rudra, dressed in Annabelle’s clothes, due to her resemblance to a photo of Annabelle he had seen shortly after his family’s death. He accuses her of attempting to snatch back the palace, and plans to kill her in order to satisfy his grandfather’s ghost. Rudra’s family attempt to evade the goons, and beseech the ghosts for help, but the ghosts are still unable to interact with the material world. When the goons capture Rudra, the gho sts of Kadhiresan’s family, driven by their wish to see justice done, combine their powers and stop Kadhiresan’s grandson from hitting Rudra.

A car stops outside the palace, and the ghosts once again feel the mysterious energy that accompanied Rudra’s arrival to the palace. The spirits of Kadhiresan’s family finally find peace and disappear after realising the folly of their patriarch’s greed. Kadhiresan’s living grandson, now freed, attempts to hit Rudra again, but is stopped by a government official (Vijay Sethupathi), who resembles the late king. Both Rudra’s family and Kadhiresan’s grand son attempt to convince the official that they are the rightful owners of the palace, but he tells them that the gov ernment intends to seize the property as a mounment, though they may still visit it as tourists. Realising that the palace is out of their grasp, Rudra and her family depart in a huff. Kadhiresan’s grandson and great-great-gran ds on attempt to protest, but official dismisses their claim on the grounds that Kadhiersan killed the original own ers to acquire the palace.

The government official, having fallen in love with Rudra at first sight, proposes to her in the same way that Vee ra Sethupathi proposed to Annabelle – by offering to build her a palace if she marries him. Rudra accepts with a smile. Shanmugam, watching their reunion, is finally at peace. However, he is miffed that they still don’t remem ber him or their past lives, and breaks the fourth wall by promising to return for the sequel. Kadhiresan’s ghost, now alone in the palace, attempts to leave, but is shocked to find that he is still trapped, indicating that he still hasn’t been forgiven for his actions. The movie the returns to the scene where Kadhiresan’s son and his goons were pushed out of the palace, indicating that yet another spirit also lingers there, once again hinting at a sequel to the story

Movie Review-;

The horror-comedy genre has a huge fan following in Tamil Nadu. Films like Devi, Aranmanai, and Kanchana w ere blockbusters in Tamil Nadu, and director Deepak Sundarrajan has tried the same formula in his new movie Annabelle Sethupathi. Starring Taapsee Pannu, Jagapathi Babu, and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles, the film revolves around the lives of ghosts who got trapped in a bungalow.The film begins in the 1940s where people w ho enter a mansion dies and join the group of ghosts trapped inside. The film soon shifts to the present where a family of thieves enters the mansion following pressurization from a police officer. Things take a new turn when the young lady in the family starts engaging in a weird manner after she starts seeing the ghosts.The Tamil-lang uage Annabelle Sethupathi is a mishmash of various genres – the ghost story, the reincarnation drama, the rev enge thriller, the madcap comedy in which numerous characters are crammed into a single frame and made to behave hysterically.Later, the lady understands that her past life has some connections with the palace.

The remaining part of the movie revolves around the way in which she manages to solve the issues surrounding the bungalow.  The film is one of the most visually pleasing movies ever made in Kollywood. In the first scene of the movie where Jagapathi Babu’s character enters the bungalow, we can see some visually splendid scenes. The artwork of the movie is brilliant, and the way in which the director captured the beauty and elegance of the pal ace deserves special applause. Rudra (Taapsee Pannu) belongs to a family of confidence tricksters that is itself tricked into a fake assignment. They are led to a sprawling and unoccupied mansion that is actually crawling with ghosts. The man who has brought them there wants Rudra and her parents and brother to clear the place of the spirits. Instead, Rudra gets involved in the mansion’s past and begins to wonder why some parts of it seem fam iliar to her.It has something to do with the British woman Annabelle, who was married to the prince Sethupathi.

The royal is played by Vijay Sethupathi, who makes his entry over an hour into the narrative and steadies what has been a slapstick and cartoonish comedy up until then.Most of the laughs emanate from the never-ending an tics of the undead and their encounters with the living. Using camera tricks and basic special effects, writer-dir ector Deepak Sundarrajan conjures up a haunted house that is more benign than scary. He’s working on a sequel, if the end credits are to be believed.However, the execution of the film is not up to the mark, and the comedy sc enes are not well written. Taapsee Pannu has done dual roles in this movie, and her portrayal of the foreign lady in the past life was a real pain to watch.Vijay Sethupathi has nothing much to do in this movie, and the only sav ing grace of Annabelle Sethupathi is those ghosts who partially succeeded in evoking some laughs in the first ha lf. The way in which romance triggers between Annabelle and Veera Sethupathi was also not convincing.

Annabelle Sethupathi is great in its production values, but the film falls flat in storytelling. If you have nothing to do this evening, watch this movie to kill your time.Several actors run around and into each other over the course of the 136-minute film, including Jagapathi Babu, Radhika Sarathkumar, Rajendra Prasad, Vanella Kishore, Geo rge Maryan, Devdarshini and Subbu Panchu. Yogi Babu’s character Shanmugha, who used to be a cook at the ma nsion and has played a key role in the hauntings, is among the standout actors.It’s no mean feat: Sundarra jan’s dialogue describes Shanmugha as “blackie” and “pig-face”. The slurs survive into the Hindi version, titled Annab elle Rathore (the “translated dialogue” is credited to Rishab Purohit). With no real chills to speak of, this, then, is the real horror of Annabelle Sethupathi, which is being streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
