A Tinder Success Story in Chennai

A Tinder Success Story in Chennai

~ It’s a match! ~

Tinder, the world’s most popular dating app comes with opportunities galore – whether you’re looking to casually date or if a platonic pal is more your speed – Tinder can be whatever you want it to be. A great place to meet new people, the app has brought us many swoon worthy stories of kindred hearts finding each other. One such story is that of Harshni and Siddharth, who embarked on a glorious journey to find love and joy with an abundance of kindness.

Years after Harshni separated from her ex-husband, she was scared to date again. She didn’t want to bring in a slew of men into her son’s life, since Shrey was just 6 years old. So three years ago, in an effort to combat her loneliness, she reluctantly joined Tinder. She was scrolling through profiles when she came across Siddharth. He was a huge football fan, much like her, drawing her in with his simple, straightforward profile.

Siddharth turned out to be a physicist and they shared the nerdiest conversations around their love for robots, followed by adorable arguments about the best filter coffee place in Chennai for a whole week before he said, ‘You take me to your favourite filter coffee place, I’ll take you to mine, and then we’ll decide.’ and called it a date!

They met two weeks later and really hit it off; around that time she was travelling in and out of the country for work, but they kept in touch. Sometimes, when she’d land late into the night, he’d come to pick her up at the airport with really funny placards!

After a few dates, she told him about her divorce and being a single mother. He listened to her patiently and said it  did not matter to him. And six months later, he finally found a moment to say, ‘I love you.’ Funnily enough, he dozed off right after the confession! So she stayed up all night to tell him, ‘I love you too,’ first thing in the morning!

Discussing her non traditional route to finding love the second time around, Harshni said, “While I scrolled endlessly on Tinder, Siddharth caught my eye with his super unpretentious profile picture – it was him having noodles! We effortlessly bonded on our shared interests – our mutual love for coffee and robots brought us together! Most of all, his patience and kindness made me fall head over heels in love. That’s not it! The list of things that I love about our relationship is endless: we love all the same things – we watch old movies on repeat and challenge each other to football every weekend! It’s just some of the many things we both love and partake in together. Also, Siddharth is not into grand romantic gestures, but he’s thoughtful about the little things– like making me a perfect cup of coffee or comforting me after a long day at work. And sometimes that’s all you need. After my last marriage ended, I never thought I’d find love again. But that’s the thing about love– you don’t find it, it finds you.”

A month later, she introduced him to Shrey; they got along pretty well! He’d take Shrey out on walks and piano class, and help him with his homework. When she  saw how much Shrey loved having him around, she knew she’d made the right choice.

Earlier this year, her brother from Canada was visiting them in India. That’s when mom told us, ‘If you want to get married, this is a perfect time,’ and Siddharth said, ‘Why not!’ The idea of committing to someone still scared her, but he sat her down and said, ‘This doesn’t change anything. But wouldn’t you want to wake up together every day?’

Speaking about how people meet and connect on Tinder, Aahana Dhar, Director, Communications at Tinder India said, “ Technology hasn’t changed our hearts and desires, it’s just opened a world of new possibilities for how we can meet people. Tinder enables members to share more about themselves effortlessly and authentically, learn more about their potential matches as they swipe and connect with each other, at their own pace. Harshni and Siddharth’s story is the perfect tale of what Tinder is about – meeting people, defining our own rules and choosing to steer your romantic journeys how you want for a magical experience. It’s truly inspiring for us to see people find enduring friendships and connections through the app, and a story like this one brings us immense joy. We hope our app continues to be the number one generator of new connections and relationships in the city.”

Everything Siddharth said sounded perfect, so they decided to tell Shrey; and he was ecstatic! ‘I love this!’ he said. He then hugged Siddharth and told him, ‘I think I’m going to call you Appa now!’

A month later, they got married on a beachfront. Shrey was so excited– he was running around telling everyone, ‘We’re going to be a happy family again!’ Siddharth and Harshni have been married for eight months now. They’ve moved into their dream house, and have even adopted two cats!
