VETTAIYAN  TAMIL MOVIE REVIEW

  • Athiyan (Rajinikanth), a police officer who encounters criminals mercilessly, works in Kanyakumari. Saranya (Dushara Vijayan), a teacher working there, brings to his attention the stash of drugs in a government school. Athiyaan finds and brings down the drug trafficker. Due to this, Saranya gets the public’s appreciation and as per her desire, shifts her job to Chennai.

He was helping government school students in Chennai, and one day he was sexually assaulted and killed. The teachers are protesting that the killer should be killed. Atheon is entrusted with the responsibility of killing the person identified as the killer. Who killed Saranya? What is behind the murder? Did Athyan find the real culprit? The rest of the story answers such questions.

After the film ‘Jai Bheem’ which showed the greatness of human rights, director T.S.Gnanavel has joined hands with Rajinikanth in this film. As a creator, he has not lost sight of his commitment to the values of human rights, equality and social justice, while at the same time crafting a story that feeds Rajini’s superstar image. The screenplay, written by Gnanavel along with Krithika, has layers that shed light on several socio-political issues and contains interesting moments that a mass screenplay needs. In that sense, the film has a lot to satisfy the mass and class audience.

The first half begins with the usual build-ups for Rajini and then turns into a thriller style with an investigation into a drug gang, a subsequent murder, and a related investigation. The turnaround at half-time creates an important contrast and makes the second half eagerly awaited.

The film questions the common sense behind encounters, the politics behind them, and the delays in justice. It is supported in many places by sharp verses. Logical errors and length are major flaws in the screenplay. Some scenes in the second half are reminiscent of some other films. The main villain character and his activities remain within the typical corporate villain framework.

Rajinikanth has played the role of an encounter policeman with a sense of duty and social concern. He scores with a guilt-ridden scene and an emotional performance. Amitabh Bachchan’s performance strengthens the role of Justice Satyadev, who expresses a human rights perspective that is the exact opposite of Rajini’s.

Fahad Fazil adds to the charm as Rajini’s trusted aide. Rana Dagupathi portrays the corporate villain perfectly. Dushara Vijayan, Manju Warrier as Rajini’s wife, Rohini as police officers, Kishore, Ritika Singh and corporate officer Abhirami also add strength to the story.

Anirudh’s songs make you beat. Background music is strong for visuals. SR Kadir’s cinematography and Philomin Raj’s cinematography make for a seamless visual experience. Despite its flaws, ‘Vettaiyan’ has emphatically recorded a voice against encounter killings and satisfied Rajini fans as well.
