Movie Review-;

Dulquer Salmaan, who plays a gangster, is not intimidating as a king, but is enjoyable as a prince. In the first half h e is amazing in some action scenes as Kotha king, in the second half he tries to intimidate as Raju Madrasi and gr abs attention with his mature performance. Shabir, who is playing the role of Kannan Bhai, has done 200 percen t justice to the work given to him. Even though he is a great Dan, he has been different in his performance in man y places, such as stumbling in some things and being unable to destroy someone bigger than himself. Semban Vin od Jose makes his debut with the buildup but disappears after a few scenes. His role is also used for comedy rath er than menace. Prasanna’s debut as a police officer makes a huge impact, but after that debut scene, his role is a lso dumbed down.

Shammi Thilakan, who plays Dulquer Salmaan’s father, has shown mass even though he appears in a few scenes. Depicted as a former rowdy, he dazzles in two mass scenes that are well-placed for his role. Gokul Suresh, who p lays a police officer, is only used to tell the story of Dulquer Salmaan-Shabbir’s friendship and their story. The ro les of Aishwarya Lakshmi, Naila Usha, Shanthi Krishna and Anika Surender are used only for the flow of the stor y. Cinematographer Nimish Ravi has shot the night scenes and action scenes to make you enjoy. But the town of Kotha and the interpretations used there are artificial. While the music by Jakes Bijai and Shaan Rahman travel to add strength to the film, the songs and background score are too reminiscent of ‘Borinju Maryam Jose’. Cinem atographer Uma Shankar Sabapathi’s mercy for several scenes has tested the patience of the fans.

It is a great tragedy that the kind of scenes that give a build-up to the build-up scenes have been shown mercy. A bhilash Joshi, who has scripted and directed Abhilash N. Chandran’s story, has tried to make a gangster story tra nscend Kerala culture and make it a huge commercial film. But the similes of some Malayalam films and the exce ssive build-up given to the characters made his attempt fail. The biggest weakness of the film is that Kotha is co mpletely artificial. The fact that the town and its people travel without any connection to the audience is a weak point for the screenplay. Letting Dulquer Salmaan fix the build-up, the scenes related to his rowdy empire are no t fully crafted which gives the film a sag and leaves the feeling of “when will the film end”. Although even the min or roles in the film do not require a huge build-up, director Abhilash Joshi has done just that throughout the film.

It is a great consolation that the director, who traveled with the reins of casting Dulquer Salmaan in the big gang ster role, has made Shabbir’s role simple yet enjoyable. Regardless of the story, Malayalam films are unique in th eir natural setting and character design. But the absence of both of them in this film is a big disappointment not o nly for Malayalam fans but also for Tamil fans. Rowdy Shabbir, who controls the Kotha area, is involved in the dr ug trade, including crude. Prasanna, a new police officer in town, decides to put an end to Shabbir’s sting and inv estigates him. Then it comes to know that Dulquer Salmaan was the one who controlled Kotha before Shabbir a nd Shabbir is his close friend.

At the same time, Dulquer Salmaan leaves Kotta due to some bitter incidents in his life, after which Shabir comes to know that Shabir has taken control of Kotta and commits atrocities there, Prasanna decides to bring Dulquer Salman back to Kotta to destroy Shabir. Accordingly, Dulquer Salmaan comes back to Kotta, then who owns Kot ta? It is the ‘King of Kotha’ that is said with extreme spice. ‘King of Kotha’ is a gangster story set in the 1980s. It t ells the story of a young man named Raju who rises to become the king of the underworld. The film follows his jo urney from a small-time thug to a powerful gangster and the sacrifices he makes along the way. The film begins w ith the arrival of Inspector Shaqul Haasan (Prasanna) to Kotha, ruled by Kannan Bhai. Raju (Dulquer Salmaan) an d Kannan (Sabir Kallarakkal) are close friends from childhood in Kotta, a crime capital city.

Raju along with his friends is involved in rowdyism keeping the city of Kotha under his control. However, unlike other gangs, these men and their gangs are not involved in making or selling drugs. But as all good things must co me to an end, their brotherly relationship is shattered after a friend’s sudden betrayal by nemesis Ranjith (Semp han Vinod) after the entry of Raju’s girlfriend Tara (Aishwarya Lakshmi). Raju leaves the town in despair. After th at, Kannan becomes the biggest gangster in Kotha and commits atrocities. Inspector Shaqul Haasan (Prasanna), who can’t stand his anarchies, tries to find Raju in UP and bring him back to Kotta. What was Kannan’s betrayal of Raj? Has Kannan’s atrocities come to an end? Is Inspector Shakul Hasan’s plan to bring Raju back to Kotha a success?

‘King of Kotha’ will answer these questions.King of Kotha is Dulquer Salmaan’s one man show. But Dulquer ente rs 30 minutes into the story. The screenplay is set accordingly. Dulquer, who shines as a mass action hero, brings the necessary intensity and depth to his character Raju and carries the film with a fluent performance.Sha bir Ka llarakkal as Kannan is equally impressive as a formidable villain.The lovely Aishwarya Lakshmi’s chemistry as Tar a works well with Dulquer.Semban Vinod as Ranjit Bhai, a ganja dealer from Gandhi village, Gokul Suresh as Dul quer’s friend Tony and a police officer, Prasanna as Inspector Shakuil Haasan, Naila Usha as Manju in a negative role, Anika Surendran as Raju’s younger sister, T.G. Ravi, Shanthi Krishna as Raju’s mother, Shammi Thilakan as Raju’s father, Sudhi Goba, Rajesh Sharma and Sajitha as Kannan’s mother Kali Kutty in an impactful role in the final scene are all excellent performances.

The art director who created Kotha gets a lot of applause. Nimish Ravi’s cinematography presents Kotha’s fictio nal village with aesthetics. Action sequences and Jakes Bjoy’s background music are the strong side of the film a nd some of the scenes come to life. If the editor had reduced the length of the film, this elaborate gangster thrille r would have been much more interesting and lively. Despite the usual predictable plot, with some emotional m oments in the screenplay, a lot of action, friendship, love, betrayal and suspense, director Abhilash Joshi has craft ed a gangster film about two flesh-and-blood dons.All in all, King of Kotha produced by Wayfarer Productions an d Zee Studios is a solid mass entertainer for Dulquer Salmaan fans.
