Arunmozhi (Shanthosh Pratap), the son-in-law of AGR Ravana (Simbu) who secretly manipulates the politics of Tamil Nadu, marries AGR’s younger sister and becomes the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Due to this, Nanchilar Gunasekaran’s (Gautham Menon) dream of becoming the chief minister, who has been desiring the post for sever al days, is ruined. One night the Chief Minister Arunmozhi is kidnapped and killed. Who killed him? Why was he killed? Shakti (Gautham Karthik), an undercover cop known as Guna, enters the AGR Fort as an accomplice. Director Obili N Krishna has tried to satisfy the mass audience by combining the hide-and-seek game between a n undercover officer and a big dada with political drama and sentimental buildups. He has directed quality films like Chillunu Oru Kaadhal, Nedunchalai and now he has directed Batu Thala. Even though Simbu appears in the p re-intermission scene, throughout the first half, he points to Simbu as AGR, AGR at many places, adds to the bui ld-ups, and moves the story along with the resulting expectations. The film is a fast-paced movie till before Sim b u appears, after Simbu comes, it travels with speed bumps here and there and gives a bit of tiredness at some pla ces and with some sentimental scenes at the end, this movie is a favorite movie for Simbu fans.
Simbuve occupies the entire film. AGR Simbu has positioned himself as a bad grandfather who does good deeds by showing himself as a servant of family sentiment and people’s sentiment after appearing on screen to the fans who are waiting for his presence. If the pace and intensity of the first half continued in the second half, it would h ave been even better. As usual, STR Simbu is doing his best in whatever way he can to do justice to his character. Throughout the film, he has satisfied the fans by doing what his fans like. Actor Gautham Karthik is getting atten tion by doing a good role and performance to the point of questioning whether this is a Gautham Karthik film or an STR film. He also performs well in action scenes and gets applause.
The chemistry between him and heroine Priya Bhavani Shankar has worked out well. Priya Bhavani, who plays t he Tahsildar, gives a brilliant performance in Shankar’s style and gives some good performances. Also, she has d one well in her upcoming portion as a college student. Gautham Vasudev Menon, who comes as a typical politic al villain, has given a typical performance. Santhosh Pratap, Kalaiyarasan, Senrayan, Joe Malluri, Actress Aarad hana, Kidish Nakshatram and many more actors have done their job well and got attention even though there a re few scenes. Coming in a dignified look, Saisha has left the fans in awe of the song with a punch line. After a lo ng gap A.R. In a film composed by Rahman, the songs are subdued and the background music is loud.
Especially the background score is much better than the songs and has taken the film to a higher level. Pathu Th ala theme song forms the crux of the film. Cinematography by Farooq J Pasha is world class. Especially the night scenes and the fight scenes are well done and that is the strength of the film. Looking at it as a story, this is the st ory of how an undercover officer goes into Dada’s gang, which we have already seen many times, but two things like the lively visuals and Simbu’s mass presence make the film stand out. The excitement of the first half may co ntinue in the second half. Pathu Thala – a bit of Gethu Thala! STR 3 rd hetric Super hit .
