Director Samy of Mirugam fame is back with Akka Kuruvi, a movie that revolves around a poor brother and sis ter living in a poor family and their connection with a shoe. Three cheers to the filmmaker for a wonderful job. Br other-sister who is a boy-girl. Their poor father, sick mother, a young romantic couple … these are the characters of the film. The story is told emotionally with these six people, director Sami.It is a celebration for children and families. Produced by Madurai Muthu Movies along with Kanavu Thozhirsalai with music by Ilayaraja has comp osed the music.The story begins with a ‘shoe’. Little Sarah’s ‘shoe’ suddenly disappears. That is, they will not be all owed inside the school without ‘shoes’ because it is a convent. When Sarah’s school time is over, Deva runs off to her school, buys a ‘shoe’ from her sister and wears it.
In this way, the brother and sister manage to wear the same ‘shoe’ alternately.The film is a legal adaptation of world famous film Children of Heaven. A heart wrenching stor y.There are several sub plots along the story. Ma ahin is a 11-year-old boy who studies sixth standard in Poomp aarai village of Kodaikanal. Deva, who has been putting money in the piggy bank to buy a bicycle, breaks the pig gy bank to buy a ‘shoe’ for her sister. Did he buy his sister a new ‘shoe’ or not? Is the rest of the story of the film. It would be more accurate to say that Master Ma heen as Deva draws attention as an affectionate brother-sister, rather than as Baby Divya as his sister. Doesn’t seem like both played. This is the first film for VS Kumar as their father.He has a sister Daavya who is studying in third standard. Daavya goes to school in the morning and Maa hin goes to school in the evening.
If only the story of these three people had been told, the film would have been paralyzed into a narrow circle of ‘one father and two children’. Since the school is functioning on a shift basis, they share the same pair of shoes. Maahin is late to school everyday as he has to wait for Daavya to return. Director Sami is directing a remake of the critically acclaimed Iranian film Children of Heaven, directed by Majid Majidi. The director, who directed ‘Uy ir’, ‘Mirugam’ and ‘Sindhu Samaveli’, wonders if this is a film from Sami. Deva and his father come to town and lo ok for garden work, an unnecessary scene.Meanwhile, a competition is announced in the school and a pair of sho es is announced as the prize.Maahin is determined to win the competition and practices for it. What happens ne xt forms the rest of the story.
A honest remake layered with emotions, the movie has come good thanks to Samy. Master Mavin and Baby Dh avya both play their part exceedingly well. All the supporting cast chip in with their best. Ilayaraja’s BGM add mo re teeth to the proceedings.Ilayaraja composes the audience with background music. The beauty of Kodaikanal has been unchanged by cinematographer Uthpal V. Nayanar. Uppal V Nayanar’s camera has captured Kodaika nal beautifully, while Manikandan Sivakumar’s editing is crisp and neat.Akka Kuruvi is an Indian thriller drama film written by Saamy and directed by Saamy with Master Maheen, Baby Davia in the lead roles. Akka Kuruvi mo vie produced by M. Muthukkaruppan, Anitha Saminathan and music composed by Ilaiyaraaja and more actors Master Maheen, Baby Davia, V.S.Kumar, Thara Jagathambi, Kathir, Varsha Bollamma are doing some role in this film.All said, Akka Kuruvi is a movie that deserves a good watch.
