Movie Review-;

Velan isn’t a groundbreaking picture in tamil cinema, but it’s also not a difficult film to watch. Velan, directed by debutant Kavin, is a typical rural family movie about a doting father and his happy-go-lucky son, with a humorous subplot concerning the latter’s love interest! Velan (Mugen Rao) is the jovial son of a wealthy and powerful manufacturer (Prabhu). While Velan’s father believes his kid is a gifted student, the results of the public examinations astound him. Our protagonist fails the exam, and his father quits speaking to him.  Velan is not a groundbreaking attempt in Tamil cinema but it’s not a film that is difficult to sit through. Debutant director Kavin’s Velan is a typical rural family entertainer that talks about the relationship between a doting dad and his happy-go-lucky son with a funny subplot about the latter’s love interest!

Velan (Mugen Rao) is a happy-go-lucky son of the rich and influential industrialist (Prabhu). While Velan’s dad thought that his son is a brilliant student, the public exam results come as a shocker to him. Our hero fails in the exam and his dad stops talking to him. Now, Velan studies hard and gets the pass mark but is unable to convince his dad. However, when Velan’s dad comes to know about his son’s love interest through the girl’s dad (Thambi Ramiah), he agrees to the marriage. But here is the twist, Velan’s girlfriend is not Thambi Ramaiah’s daughter! How Velan is going to sort out this confusion and win back both his dad and ladylove forms the crux of the story .Velan now studies diligently and receives a passing grade, but he is unable to persuade his father.

Velan’s father, on the other hand, agrees to the marriage after learning of his son’s love interest from the girl’s father (Thambi Ramiah). But there’s a catch  Velan’s girlfriend isn’t the daughter of Thambi Ramaiah! The plot revolves around Velan’s attempts to sort out his misunderstanding and reclaim both his father and his lady love. Mugen looks energetic, got good comic timing, and pulls off the romantic scenes well. But he should work on the emotionally demanding scenes! Veteran Prabhu is super impressive and Thambi Ramaiah is okay. The baddie Hareesh Peradi is a typical villain and evokes unintentional laughter in the climax.Soori who comes in the second half evokes good laughter and plays a vital role.Mugen has a youthful appearance, strong comedy timing, and a knack for love moments. But he needs to work on the scenes that are emotionally taxing! Prabhu, the veteran, is outstanding, while thambi ramaiah is adequate.

Hareesh Peradi, the villain, is a classic villain who, in the conclusion, causes inadvertent laughter. Soori, who appears in the second half, is a hilarious character who plays an important role. The comedy and emotions work in this standard country entertainer with a predictable plot. Velan is not a groundbreaking attempt in Tamil cinema but it’s not a film that is difficult to sit through. It’s a typical rural entertainer with a predictable screenplay but the comedy and emotions work!Technically, Gopi Sundar’s songs are good and the visuals are grand for a rural film. The dialogues of Kavin also work in favor of the film.To conclude, Gopi Sundar’s songs are technically sound, and the scenery are impressive for a country film. Kavin’s dialogues are also beneficial to the film. Velan is, in conclusion, a typical rural family action entertainment.
