Ganeshkumar, S.P.Ahamed Art direction: V. Selvakumar Stunt choreography: Don AshokLaabam is a political film written and directed by SP Jhananathan. It has Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in lead roles, while Kalaiyarasan, Jagapathi Babu, Ramesh Thilak and others play crucial supporting roles. The film is produced by P Arumugam under the banner 7Cs Entertainment and Vijay Sethupathi Productions. On paper, and as an idea, Laabam is a fantastic film.
Director SP Jhananathan is known for his Marxist perspective in films and he uses this as a tool to propagate the principles of Marxist economics. The issue addressed in the film is important as wellVijay Sethupathi plays the role of Pakkiri, who returns to his village after a gap of 6 years and decides to contest the village Farmers Ass oci ation elections. While he wins unopposed after his rival faction led by Jagapathi Babu withdraws from the electi ons, despite becoming the leader, he gets to know that the association is indirectly under Jagapathi’s control. Ho w he manages to stabilize the lives of the villagers and raise the standards of the working class, despite opposit ion from the capitalists, forms the rest of the plot.
The film is all about community farming which is popularly known as joint agriculture as well. Pakkiri (Vijay Sethupathi) is someone who loves his village and is ready to go to any extent to save the village and the farming lands from the corporate vultures who want to occupy their village in the name of helping the unemployed with employment. But Pakkiri doesn’t want this to happen and encourages the people to take up community farming. But things aren’t as easy as the same. There is mafia and politics involved in this, making things dirty. Now how our hero, with the help of his girlfriend Clara (Shruti Haasan) and villagers mobilizes this movement forms the crux of the story.

Movie Review – ;
Director S P Jananathan’s Laabam movie is released today, and the review flows with different perceptions. The film conveys the importance of farming and how profit can be yielded. It projects how nature can be made as to money. The hardest part is to watch the film in the absence of the director S P Jananathan.Vijay Sethupathi is someone who doesn’t accept films and roles until and unless he has something challenging to do in it. And once again, he stole the show with his performance. In his element, he has done a neat job. Shruti Haasan’s perfo rm ance was also of great support to Vijay’s role and she has also done a good performance. The dialogues are int ense throughout the film. It makes the viewers think beyond the box. The first half of the film is dragging, but the second half moves swiftly. The positives of the film are only the content. The speciality of the film is its S P Jan anathan’s direction starring Vijay Sethupathi.
When it comes to negatives, the film has no continuity, and there comes lag in the plot. It makes the viewers feel that it could have been portrayed in a better way. The characterisation is very less compared to the other films of SP Jananathan. Even Vijay Sethupathi’s has not been deeply written. Many unnecessary characters could have been avoided in the film. When it comes to Shrithi Haasan, her role doesn’t play any importance. It has been pr esented like she is portrayed just for the need of an actress.As usual, Jagapathi Babu has got into the skin of his character and played a good role of a businessman and a mastermind behind the scam. Sai Dhanshika has also do ne a good job in the flick.Laabam is a film directed by the late director S P Jananathan starring Vijay Sethu pathi and Sruthi Haasan. Vijay Sethupathi, a nomad, returns to his home village in search of agricultural knowledge.
He later tells people how to yield profit through farming and starts collective agriculture.Vijay Sethupathi takes the responsibility in the Agriculture union to help people for gaining profit. On the other hand, the agricultural union’s higher officials are already conspiring evil against Vijay Sethupathi. This is the moment where the action sequences begin. Vijay Sethupathi successfully runs the collective farming project to prevent these conspiracies and make a profit for the people.The plot of the film is predictable but the messaging is handled quite really well. It talks about the importance of community farming and how the future and farming culture of India can be ma de better.Director SP Jananathan forwarded to explain the need for an agricultural economy. Laabam film conv eys in detail the basic principle of agriculture and its importance. Although the propaganda on agriculture is in sisted, the film feels dry to a particular extent.
The film shoots the view of agriculture and politics in a single frame. But it can be entertained only to a manage able scene, but after that, the film droops. The film keeps dragging with dialogues portraying politics and agri cu lture. This can be seen in both positive and negative ways.This film is director SP Jananathan’s last film as a dir ector and he made sure he gave more than the best for this film. The dialogues of the film are packed with inf ormation, current affairs, how the global market depends on agriculture, and a lot more. Especially seeing Vijay Sethupathi recites those dialogues is going to be a visual delight to all his fans. The visuals, locations, techn ica lities, and camera work are assets to the film. Music by D. Imman is a cherry on the cake for this film. Cine mat og raphy is the major positive of the film Laabam. Ramji has given his best in all the shots with the editing of N. Gan esh Kumar, and S.P. Ahamed D. Imman beautifully handles the music. The production companies are Vijay Set hupathhi Productions and 7Cs Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Watch Laabam full movie with the family. Since there is no adult content, the film can be enjoyed watching family. Laabam movie is released in theatres today.
