In this, the central government said in the Supreme Court that the period of deferment on the loan can be extended for two years.
Through the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the Center and the RBI informed the court that deferment on loan repayment may extend up to two years. But only few sectors will get it. SG Tushar Mehta said that we are in the process of identifying the affected areas, who can get different benefits according to the impact of the damage caused by the epidemic.
According to the information, the government has submitted a list of which sectors can be given further relief. Now further hearing in this matter will be held on Wednesday. In case of interest on inte rest, Tushar Mehta has sought more time from the court. Accord ing to ANI, Tushar Mehta told the court that a solution can be found by meeting between the Central officials, bank associations and RBI.
The court said that the court has already deferred hearing in this case thrice. The court once again said that the government will have to be fair in this matter. SG Tushar said that the government has also filed an affidavit. The petitioner has asked the Supreme Court to extend the period of deferment to 31 December 2020. The petition has sought relaxation of lawyers, transport sector, tourist guides, travel agency and their drivers from other sectors. According to sources, RBI is not in favor of extending the loan moratorium from August 31.
