32ND INDIA-SRI LANKA IMBL MEET HELD

32ND INDIA-SRI LANKA IMBL MEET HELD

The 32nd IMBL (International Maritime Boundary Line) meeting between India and Sri Lanka was held on 04 No v 2022.

The meeting was co-chaired by Rear Admiral S Venkat Raman, Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu & Puduche rry Naval Area and Rear Admiral TMAA Tennekoon, Commander-Northern Naval Area, Sri Lankan Navy. It was held onboard Sri Lankan Navy Ship Sayura, at sea, in the Bay of Bengal. 

Issues related to Maritime Security and safety of Indian fishermen in the Palk Strait were discussed. 

The Indian delegation urged the Sri Lankan security agencies to show a more humane approach towards the Ind ian fishermen. Both delegations reiterated the need for expeditious information sharing, especially on issues th at require immediate action. 

The meeting also provided a forum to the Navies and Coast Guards from both sides  to further enhance mutual cooperation and synergy in operations.
