Story-;

Helmed by former IAS officer and National Award-winning filmmaker Papa Rao Biyyala, marking his full-length feature directorial debut, ‘Music School’ is a slice-of-life drama revolving around a theatre teacher and music te acher, trying to put together a stage musical based on ‘The Sound of Music’. Painting, music, theatre, poetry, and such soulful and nourishing creative streams are often sidelined as there is unprecedented academic pressure on students to score good grades and find a place in reputed professional colleges. But nourishment of the soul is m ost important; there is nothing worse than the broken spirit of a child.The movie opens with a theatre teacher st ruggling to make his presence count, while other streams take up all the space, students and credit.

Shriya Saran (Maria), a music teacher from Goa, joins the school, only to face the same disdain and struggle that Sharman Joshi’s character (drama teacher Manoj) has to contend with.Manoj helps Maria find accommodation in his apartment building. Further, Manoj, who is the single father of a girl, helps Maria start her music school in the building. And eventually, the duo decides to stage ‘The Sound Of Music’ with their students.Every student in the music school has a story. One is so much under pressure from his parents and coaching institute that he loses his mind. Another has to climb down from a window in order to attend the class. One girl is the daughter of a co mmissioner, who hates the idea of a music school.

Manoj and Maria decide to take the students on a trip to Goa for a three-week workshop to prepare for the mus ical. There, everyone is greeted by Maria’s parents, who are an interracial couple. During this visit, two of their st udents fall in love and decide to run away. One happens to be the daughter of the commissioner, who is hell-bent on getting her daughter back and destroying the stage show.What happens next is heart-warming and inspiring, but for that one needs to watch this uplifting musical entertainer.’Music School’ focuses on ‘Theatre and Drama’ in schools as important art subjects for children. The narrative of the film doesn’t deviate from its core, which is beautiful. The film’s music is timeless and grows on you. It is beautifully infused into the storyline.

Movie Review-;

Shreya takes a job as a music teacher in a school in Hyderabad and starts a music school with Sharman Joshi, a dr ama teacher in the same school. Shreya and Sharman Joshi take the students to Goa for training and decide to st age a play called ‘Sound of Music’ along with training them in music and drama. Just as everyone is returning to H yderabad after completing their training in Goa, Commissioner Prakashraj’s daughter goes missing. When Pra ka sh Raj comes to know about this, he goes in search of his daughter and arrests Shreya and Sarman Joshi by sto pp ing the play in Hyderabad. Got the magic girl?, or not? Shreya – Sharman Joshi’s play on stage? Isn’t it? That is the rest of the story of the film. Shreya, who plays the heroine of the story, impresses by playing the role of a music teacher and dancing along with the students.

Sarman Joshi, who plays a drama teacher, does not have a big job but does justice to his character with a decent performance. Popular playback singer and musician Shaan, who is in love with Shreya one-sidedly, but there are some scenes where he expresses his love to Shreya and bids farewell in disappointment. Prakashraj’s seasoned performance as the Hyderabad Commissioner and strict father has carried the film along. Acting as students of a music school, the youngsters and youngsters are amazing in acting and dancing without any hesitation. Leela Samson, Vinay Varma, Srikanth Iyengar, Mangala Bhatt, Suhasini Mule, Benjamin Gilani, Crazy Goswami, all the actors and actresses in the film have done justice to their characters.

Cinematographer Kiran Diohanns has shot the scenes in a flashy and grand manner. Goa’s scenery and all areas li ke music school and student residence are displayed like an album to enjoy. All the songs in Ilayaraja’s music are listenable. Ilayaraja, who has dabbled in western music, has given a completely different music and has added gr eat strength to the film through music. Written and directed by Papa Rao Biyala, the scenes have been shot to su it the title of the film and even the dialogues have been given as songs, although it is a bit over the top, but it is al so a different attempt in a way. Although the film, which was made in Hindi and Telugu languages, has been dub bed in Tamil, it refuses to go close to the hearts of Tamil fans as English is heavily used in most of the scenes.

 Since the plot of the film is an attempt to stage a play called ‘Sound of Music’, how are the students going to act in the play? Expectation arises. But it’s disappointing that the young pair’s performance ends on a low note, rath er than fully showing the drama as it unfolds. Director Papa Rao Biyala, who has given the usual message to the p arents that students should not be seen as a scoring machine, and another usual message to the students that t hey should finish their studies and focus on other things without giving importance to love at a young age, has m ade a new attempt to convey it with music.  While director Papa Rao Biyala appreciates his effort, the way it is to ld is incomprehensible and makes the film falter.

But if you leave aside the flaws in the film for the making of the film, the way the actors were hired, the music, th e cinematography, etc., ‘Music School’ will definitely make you enjoy it.  Veteran composer Ilaiyaraaja has compo sed eight songs, plus the makers have recreated three iconic numbers from ‘The Sound of Music’, namely ‘Do-re-mi’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and ‘So Long, Farewell’. Sharman Joshi and Shriya Saran are perfect choices for their roles, their easy-going and mellow performances help the audience understand the idea behind this movie.

Veteran character actor Prakash Raj, Leela Samson and Benjamin Gilani, among others, have delivered the seaso ned performance expected of them. Singer Shaan is the surprise package in the film, not only is he singing and m aking his acting debut, but he is good too. Parents aren’t against music, but they want their children to take them up as hobbies, not as career options. The movie highlights the pressure applied by school systems and parents on children to continue with endless hours of studies, leaving no time for soul-nourishing activities, such as art, mu sic and sports. ‘Music School’ is superbly narrated through music, and relatable situations and characters. It is a must-watch, especially for family viewing.
