Story-;
Directed by debutant director Tharani Rasendran, produced by KJ Ganesh, the movie ‘Yathisai’ is made with a new cast of actors and actresses. Yathisai means south direction. Many new attempts have been made in this st ory, centered on the Pandya king Ranathira Pandyan, who defeated the Chera Cholas who ruled South TamilNa du, including Sangam period Tamil. Ranathira Pandyan conquers the Chola country after defeating the Chera Ch ola kings. Einar Kudi was one of the many small villages that helped the Cholas in the war. The Cholas are defeat ed and hide in the forest, while the Ainars are driven to the Palai land. They are hunting and living as a commun i ty and decide to overthrow the Pandya king and live with their own country. Accordingly, was their plan to gath er an army to overthrow the Pandya king successful? Isn’t it? That is the story of the movie ‘Yathisai’.

In the 7th century, the Chola Empire led by Cheran and tribal groups like the Velirs and Einars came together and started a war to defeat the Pandya Empire. At the end of the war, the Pandya Empire led by Ranathiran Pandyan wins and captures the entire south along with the Chola fort. Destroys all enemies. The Cholas and some others f led and hid in the forest. A group of them is one. Vowing that ‘Ranatheeran will defeat Pandyan and hand over th e power and the country to Einars again’, the young man of Einar Gudi, along with his small army, sets out to defe at Ranathiran with a large army.
Director Dharani Rasendran has given ten answers to questions such as whether Koi’s vow has been fulfilled, w ho got the country and power, and whether Ranathiran has been overthrown. Seyon as Koi, a young man of the Ein race, and Shakti Mithra as Ranathiran are perfect choices. Seyon enlivens the entire journey of Koi’s charact er as a vibrant peasant boy, an aggressive warrior, a tribal leader, Irumappu who took over the Pandian fort, and the guilt of sacrificing the race with his performance. Shakthi Mithran has done justice to the narrative given in the prequel to Ranathiran’s character with her looks and aggression.
Chandrakumar, who is the elder of the Einar ethnic group, Kurusoma Sundaram, who is the Samiyadi, Subatra, w ho is the leader of the Perumappalli ethnic group, and Rajaletzumi, who is the Devaradiyar, have done justice to the work given to them. Even though the people of the Einar ethnic group, its warriors, the generals in the Pandy an army, the warriors are all newcomers, the director has bought the acting in such a way that there is no foreign ness anywhere. Chakraborty’s background score perfectly conveys the grandeur and ferocity of the war. While all the songs are unique, nothing stands out.
Akhilesh Kathamuthu’s cinematography perfectly captures the shy milky land and the bloody war. Importantly, the drone shots are handled well. Apart from some graphic scenes showing the palace and town, others are well done graphically. A small-budget film may seem cut-and-dry, but it’s not lacking much in many places. Om Sivap rakash’s fight scenes, Suresh Kumar’s costuming, Ranjith Kumar’s art direction and Vinod Sukumar’s make-up m ake `Yathisai’ stand out from other Raj period films. A rice pada gave the Palai land race a stone weapon and the Pandya Empire a metal weapon.
However, occasional lip sync issues and superficial performances by some of the newcomers are issues that need to be ironed out.It is said in the voice over about the Einar clan that they were chased to the Palai land due to the ir defeat in the war, became a nomadic hunting society, and are struggling with the desire to grow and eat. Even t hough the Einar clan is built before our eyes such as the house they live in, weapons, clothes, pre-war rituals, wh at is the contribution of the women of the akula, the relationships, the structure of the village, what has made t hem psychologically interested in the country, etc.
It becomes travelable.After that, a small group of 500 people of Einar sets out to destroy the Pandyan emperor, and the special war tactics and weapons they use add to the interest. Since the plot is set in the seventh century, the characters speak Tamil words that were common at that time. The speaker is very concerned about this. But in the first half, reading the subtitles along with the new characters is a bit difficult to absorb. Sporadic typos are also a reason for that. At the same time, in the second half, they have reduced the dialogue and increased the spe ed of the scenes, trying to catch up.
From the pre-intermission scene to the final scene, the director has brutally shown the true face of war without any makeup. The cult of the dead, the sacrifices for war, the relationship between the empire and the ethnic gro up, the role played by the small ethnic groups in the army of the empire, the self-sacrificing Navkandam Sangy am, all the previously unseen ancient customs are fabricated and included in the lively second half.It is told thro ugh the characters of Koi and Ranathiran that rule, palaces, armies, wars etc. are all conducted to win power.
However, the audience is confused as to whose side they should approach the battle for power, the leader of the ethnic group Talaivan Koi, who is fighting to ‘restore power’, and Ranathiran Pandian, who is fighting to ‘defend power’. There is nothing new about Devaradiyar’s characters and they come and go without making any impact on the story.In the final scene, the return of the exiled Chera king in the Pandya-Chola-Chera war to the Pandya nation, Ranathiran’s son falling into the hands of the elder of the Einar clan, the final decision taken by Devaradi yar, and the foreshadowing of the Pandya army going to destroy the Einars, arouses the desire for the second p art.
