13th Convocation held at Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science
Chennai, 30 September 2022:
Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) conducted its 13th annual Convocation at its premises at Padur today. A total of 1852 Graduands including 1532 – UG, 215 – PG, 27 – PhD, were awarded degrees, out of which 57 Rank Holders were honoured with medals and cash Prizes worth Rs. 8 Lakhs for their meritorious performance in Academics.
The occasion was conducted in the presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, Guest of Honour, Shri. S. Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, Secretary, Department of Space, Govt. of India and Special Guests, Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas Suffragan Metropolitan of Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, Former Chief Controller of DRDO and Founder CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace.
The convocation was presided by the Chief Guest along with the dignitaries of the institution: Dr. Mrs. Eli zabeth Verghese, Chancellor, HITS; Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Pro-Chancellor HITS; Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice-Chancellor, HITS; and Members of the Board of Management, HITS.
The convocation commenced with the delivery of University Report by Dr. S. N. Sridhara, and Dr. Mrs. Elizab eth Verghese delivered the Presidential address and conferred the Doctor of Science; Honoris Causa to Shri. S. Somanath and the Doctor of Letters to Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas. Later the Convocation address was pre sented by Dr. M. Ravichandran, and a Special address by Shri. S. Somanath.
Earlier in the day, Centre of Excellence in Space Technology was inaugurated by Shri. S. Somanath and Centre of Excellence in Under Water Robotics and Communication was inaugurated by Dr. M. Ravichandran in the campus.
Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), established in 1985, is a Deemed to be University that offers a broad spectrum of Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Diploma and Research & Doctoral Programmes in diverse fields of Engineering, Management, Architecture, Liberal Arts, Applied Sciences, Allied Health Scien ces, Design and Law. The University is part of India’s most reputed education group, Hindustan Group of Ins titutions, that caters to the academic pursuits of students in India and Overseas.
From being awarded the QS Advanced E-Learning Excellence for Academic Digitisation to being recognized among the Top Private Institutions in India, HITS has garnered several awards, accreditations and recognit i ons over the years. In 2022, HITS has ranked 152nd in the Engineering category and 27th in the Architecture category as per NIRF Rankings 2022, achieved an AAAA+ rating by Careers360 Magazine and also received NBA Accreditation for 10 engineering programmes offered by the institute.
HITS accommodates several schools offering over 100 programmes in various domains with industry-relevant and flexible curricula which include various guest lectures by industrial experts and industrial visits for stude nts to get a real-world experience and knowledge about their domain. The institute also houses various rese a rch centres where students get to participate in various workshops which allows them to upskill and upgrade their knowledge.
HITS has collaborated with over 100 international universities of high repute which provides an opportunity for the students to be a part of exchange programmes that provides a global outlook to their chosen field.
With the equal emphasis on academics and skills development, the students shape up to be ideal candidates for many reputed companies that visit the campus for annual recruitment. In 2022 alone, 80 per cent of stu dents were placed in various firms with attractive packages ranging from 6.5 LPA to 13 LPA.
Along with academics, HITS supports and encourages its students to take part in various extra-curricular ac tivities which nurtures their overall development and helps them become valuable members of the society.
Chief Guest speech
Chancellor Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese addressed the audience at the 13th Convocation. She congratulated the graduands and wished them a bright future ahead as they embark on a journey towards becoming valua ble members of the society. She stated the importance of education as the soul of the society that passes from generation to generation and creates a pathway towards a better society. She urged that the youths should be sensitized about the current issues which will help in formulating solution towards a better world. Towards the end of her speech, she honoured Chief Guest Dr. M. Ravichandran, and praised for his immeasurable con tributions in the field of Ocean Technology.
Chief Guest Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India addressed the 13th convocation. He congratulated the students on their graduation and urged them to have a multidisciplinary approach to attract success every walk of life.
He encouraged the students to be sincere and uphold the integrity of the institution. He also motivated the students to be sensitive towards the environment and comes up with ways to utilize the natural resources judiciously.
He touched upon various facets of Ocean Technology, Underwater Technology and many interconnected domains that will shuttle of India’s development within next 25 years.
Lastly, he galvanized all the students to persevere against all odds and overcome any challenge fearlessly.
Guest of Honor, Shri. S. Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, Secretary, Department of Space, Govt. of India addressed the 13th convocation where he congratulated the students on their graduation ceremony.
In his addressed, that this is the golden time for the field of Science and Technology as many developments, research and inventions are taking place. He also noted that in the field of Space and Satellite Technology unpr ecedented number of launches will take place and extolled how the field of Aeronautics have grown by leaps and bounds.
As humanity is taking shape in many domains, he urged the graduates not only to become experts in their domains but also have enough knowledge from other domains as well.
He encouraged the students to stay upgraded and updated with the current scenario and knowledge, which will help in excelling in their domains.
Special Guest Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas Suffragan Metropolitan addressed the 13th convocation where he thanked the chief dignitaries of the event. He emphasized on HITS has played a key role tapping the potential of various students leading to the path of success. He encouraged all the students to practice compassion and also motivated them to have a higher goal in life.
